Elegant and modern minimalist design add versatility to your phone.
The Design Approach
Bezl achieves protection with the bare minimum of material, and allows the user to experience the iPhone the way Apple intended. Bezl does not cover up buttons or the gorgeous materials used on this revolutionary device, but does protect the glass screen. Bezl is functional, minimalist, and beautiful at the same time: a case for people who don't want to settle for the bulky and intrusive cases available on the market today.
Jos Cocquyt is an aerospace engineer and product designer. He became frustrated with the state of the art of iPhone cases, and decided to design his own.
Anne Cocquyt is an experienced international business executive and made Bezl into a business. Together they established a reliable product pipeline to ensure Bezl as a reliable and quality product.
Inês Brito is graphics artist and packaging designer based in Porto, Portugal and helped design the handsome retail packaging.
Oakley Johnson is a director for fashion brand Saako and provides branding and PR consulting.
Four corners and adhesive? That does not sound like rocket science! The art is to design the four corners as minimalist as possible but with a maximum of protection for phone and glass screen. The special foam adhesive is tuned to provide shock absorption when the phone is dropped as can be seen in the video.

Jos, Anne, love, kitesurfing, a hippie bus, it’s all in here…
Back in 2010, Jos was working at his aerospace engineer’s dream job (click here), but had come to the conclusion that his day job was getting in the way of his latest passion kitesurfing, and that it’s hard to learn how to land a solid backloop when you can only kite on the weekends. He quit his job and went on a fulltime kite-safari for two years, using an iPhone to keep in touch with folks back home, take photos, learn languages, and so on (http://21stcenturyhobo.com). Always the design purist, he never had a case on his iPhone. Late 2011 though, he hit a patch of bad luck. He broke two iPhone glass screens in the course of two months. Dejected, he bought a big rubber case and used it during his travels in Brazil. He hated it: He had to flick multiple times to get the pages on his Kindle app to turn, the thing was a trap for beach sand, and his slick iPhone had turned into a brick. Besides, the case made texting the “Q” difficult and every other word in Portuguese starts with that letter.
Jos drew up some sketches of a concept inspired by the military UAV hand controllers he helped design, and came up with a concept for about as minimalist of a case as one can envision. In early 2012, whilst trying to reintegrate into society, Jos created a prototype mostly for personal use. He quickly realized other people might like the case as well and ran a Kickstarter. Sadly, he spent more time on designing a better case instead of PR, and the Kickstarter did not fund completely though it did raise $5,000.
Right about the time the Kickstarter ended, Jos caught wind that Anne, a beautiful German girl he had been friends with for years, was single. He invited her to come camping and surfing in his VW bus, and, well, love happened. Not being of hesitating kind the couple decided to get married and move to San Francisco. Jos was taking on some contracting work, and Anne had prospects there as well, so they settled in. Jos still had his Bezl prototype on his phone and still thought it was the greatest thing ever. Anne wasn’t so sure, but after doing some market research she put her business acumen and German MBA to work and came up with a plan. The couple was encouraged to pursue Bezl by a former VP of an accessory industry giant, and their friends who were using early Bezl prototypes loved them. Bezl was born, as a product this time, and Jos and Anne found themselves life and business partners.
Leveraging the Bezl network of friends and partners, a website, video, packaging design, international logistics were put together on mostly goodwill and the enthusiasm by many to see Bezl succeed.
The last few months the couple has learned a ton about manufacturing over seas, importing, distributing, and wholesale markets, and now Bezl is finally available to all lovers of things minimalist and design aficionados.
